Bullets and Numbering

Bullets and Numbering:

Bullets and numbering are place before each item in the list. Ms word provides the facility to create bullets and numbers list of items. Several bullet and numbering styles are available. Bullets and numbers list help to simplify steps or items to the reader.

Numbers:

These are figures, numeral or alphabets that are place before items of a list. These are usually place in ascending order. A number before an item indicates it position or order in the the list. By default, the number starts with 1 but it can change. Following are the examples of numbers:

1.       Apple 1)      Apple i.                     Cherry I.                    Mango
2.       Orange 2)      Apple ii.                   Orange II.                  cherry
3.       Grape 3)      Graph iii.                  Mango III.                Graph

Bullets:

Bullets are symbols and include a small square, a circle that are place before items of list.

Inserting Bullets or Numbering from Toolbar:

The following procedure is use to insert bullets or numbering from toolbar:

  1. Select the text to apply bullets or numbering.
  2. Click Bullets or numbering  buttons on the toolbar.

Inserting Bullets or Numbering from Menu bar:

The following procedure is use to insert bullets or numbering from menu bar.

  1. Select the text to apply bullets or numbering.
  2. Select Format >  Bullets and numbering from menu.
  3. Click Bullets tab or number tab.
  4. choose any style of bullets or number list.
  5. click OK. the selected bullets or numbering will apply on the selected tex.

Adding Numbering and Bullets with Auto format:

A number or bullets list can create automatically by beginning a line with a number or asterisks. When the user presses Enter key at the end of line with the number or asterisk. Auto Format picks up the formatting for next line.

The following proceeding is use to start auto formatting:

  1. Click to place the insertion point where you want start typing a list.
  2. Type  1. or a. or A. or I. to start a number list or * (asterisk) to start a bullet list
  3. Press the space bar or Tab key.
  4. Type some text on the line and press the Enter key.

Removing Bullets or Numbering using Menu bar:

The following procedure is use to Removing Bullets or Numbering from Menu bar:

  1. Select the List to remove bullets or numbering.
  2. Select Format >  Bullets and numbering from menu. The bullets and numbering dialog box appears.
  3. click None and click OK.

Removing Bullets or Numbering using Formatting Toolbar:

  1. Highlight the list to remove bullets or numbering.
  2. click Bullets icon OR numbering icon.

Customizing Bullets or Numbering:

The appearance of each bullet or number can be change by customizing numbers or bullets. The user can use a symbol or picture instead of a plain of a plain bullet

Customizing Bullets lists:

The bullets and numbering dialog provides bullet symbols to choose. another palette provides more symbols to use with lists.

The following procedure is use to customize bullets lists:

  1. Select the bullets list to customize.
  2. Select Format > Bullets and Numbering. The Bullets and numbering dialog box appears.
  3. Select Bullets tab and select desire bullet option.
  4. Click customize. The customize bullets list dialog box appears
  5. Select the desire bullet character under bullet character    OR   Click Font to change the style, color and size of the bullets. OR Click character to select a symbol for the bullet. OR  Click picture to select a picture for the bullet ad click OK.

Customizing Numbered lists:

The numbered list can be customized to display different styles of numbers Ms word provides several ways of customizing numbers to create an effective numbered list The following procedure is use to customize Numbered lists:

  1. Select the numbered list to customize.
  2. Select Format > Bullets and Numbering. The Bullets and numbering dialog box appears.
  3. Select numbered Tab and select desire numbering option.
  4. Click customize. The customize numbered list dialog box appears.
  5. Select the desire option from number style list to change the number style,
  6. Type or use nudge buttons to change starting number for the list in start at text box.
  7. Select Left, Right Or Centered from number potion list.
  8. Type or use nudge button to enter appropriate location in Aligned at text box
  9. Click Font. The font dialog box appears.
  10. Select appropriate options under Font, Font Style, Font color or size.
  11. Click OK. The customized number appears in number format text box.
  12. Click OK.
